Social Brand Forum The Midwest’s Premier Digital Marketing Event will take place October 24-25 in Coralville, Iowa. The Social Brand Forum is a top 10 social media conference, according to Jason Keath at SocialFresh. The event will include national social media leaders as well as digital marketing thought leaders for two days of interactive discussions and impressive keynotes. Small and large organizations will benefit from the great learning opportunities available at Social Brand Forum 2013. Marketers will learn how to build better brands through social media, content, conversations, and community. Networking will abound as well, especially given this event’s single track orientation which keeps everyone in the same room together throughout the conference.

Now that the 2013 conference is over, I put together my notes for you to get a better idea of what I learned at the Social Brand Forum 2013 and how it might help you grow your business. Who is brand driven digital?

Brand Driven Digital “helps businesses build a better brand online through social media and digital marketing.” They offer strategic consulting, coaching, speaking and training. Brand Driven Digital puts on events like the Social Brand Forum and their own Social Strategy Boot camp workshops on a regular basis. Nick Westergaard is the company’s Founder and Chief Brand Strategist.

Social Brand Forum 2013 Speakers

Ten speakers will be featured at Social Brand Forum 2013 to give keynote speeches about their area of expertise. Business leaders, corporate marketers, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and agency professionals will have the opportunity to learn from a variety of different speakers. Some speakers will even be giving out copies of their latest books.

Jay Baer

Jay is a New York Times best-selling author, social media and marketing keynote speaker, and consultant. He speaks to more than 75 groups a year with as many as 5,000 people. Jay has consulted for 30 of the Fortune 500 and his blog is ranked as the #1 content marketing blog in the world. Jay was named as one of America’s top 3 social media consultants by Fast Company magazine. Jay is also giving out a copy of his book Youtility to everyone who attends Social Brand 2013.


Youtility is about “why smart marketing is about help not hype.” Baer makes the argument that businesses are so concerned about creating hype that they’re missing the big picture. Businesses need to be asking, “How can we help?” and learn to be genuinely and inherently useful. Youtility is a new marketing model for the information overload era.

Gini Dietrich

Gini is the founder and CEO of Arment Dietrich, an integrated marketing communication firm based in Chicago. She is the author of Spin Sucks, a 2012 Cision Top 100 Blog, and the co-host of Inside PR, a podcast broadcasted weekly about social media, communications, and where they meet and intersect. She speaks at many events, delivers panel discussions, conducts coaching sessions, and organizes workshops across North America and Europe. All of her work centers on the subject of using online technology in marketing, HR, sales, and communication. Gini was named number one PR person according to Klout and TechCrunch. She was also number one on Twitter according to TweetLevel. Gini is giving out a copy of her book Spin Sucks to the first 100 people to register for Social Brand 2013.

Spin Sucks

Spin Sucks is about communicating honestly, responsibly, transparently, and authentically with customers, prospects, stakeholders, investors, and communities. Spin Sucks is a compilation of Gini’s lessons learned for PR and corporate communications pros.

Jason Falls

Jason is a digital strategist, author, thinker, and speaker of web and marketing. He leads the digital strategy for CafePress. He is the founder and chief instigator at He has also co-authored two books. Jason is also an award-winning social media strategist. He is a top influencer in the marketing and social technology space.

DJ Waldow

DJ is a writer, blogger, speaker, and email marketing consultant. He is the founder and CEO of Waldow Social, where he helps make email marketing more interesting and eye-catching. He is currently in transition to a new role at Marketo where he will help clients optimize their digital marketing campaigns. Dj is the author of Rebel’s Guide to Email Marketing. DJ is also the co-host of The Work Talk Show weekly podcast (which recently featured our co-founders!).

Marcus Sheridan

Marcus got started in the marketing business when he started his own swimming pool company, River Pools and Spas. Due to its great success, Marcus now finds himself running a sales/marketing/personal development blog, Sales Lion. Marcus gives many keynotes around the globe and does a great deal of consulting with businesses and brands. The New York Times has referred to Marcus as a “Web Marketing Guru.”

Lee Odden

Lee is the CEO of TopRank Online Marketing, a digital marketing agency which focuses on internet marketing consulting, training, and implementation services. He has done consulting for many leading business-to-business (B2B) companies. Lee is also giving out a copy of his book Optimize to the first 100 people to register for Social Brand 2013.

Tim Washer

Tim is a producer, event emcee, and social media keynote speaker. He served as head of social video for IBM and helped launch the Smarter Planet campaign. Tim has done writing and acting for Comedy Central, The Onion SportsDome, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Monica Vernon

Monica is the founder of Vernon Research Group and currently serves as President and CEO. She is an active member of the Cedar Rapids City Council and serves as Mayor Pro Tem and represents District 2. She is active in many other community organizations in Cedar Rapids as well. She is also running for Congress.

Nick Westergaard

Nick is not only a speaker for Social Brand 2013, but he is also the host of this Brand Driven Digital event. Nick is the founder of Brand Driven Digital. He helps build better brands online and is also a speaker and writer. Nick also teaches social media marketing at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business. He co-hosts The Work Talk Show podcast with DJ Waldow (see above) and is a monthly columnist for The Gazette.

While I have not read Youtility yet, I am excited to learn more about it. Seems like such a common sense yet awesome idea to help more than you sell and the sales will come.


I’m very excited to learn from all of these informative keynote speakers. I think the information will be great and it will be awesome to meet all of the people that I’ve followed on Twitter and other social media sites.
